Make it a feast of lightness

Recently did exercise on setting intentions for 2021. Two of the words I wrote down were feast and lightness. On the surface and with these words seem incongruous. They also seem like strange words for the first half of 2021 when our lives are likely to still be restricted by lockdowns with lots restrictions on what we can do, where we can go and above all who we can be with.

But as I thought about these words and why I had written them, I realized that my intention was to feast on whatever joy, whatever gladness, whenever togetherness I could create this year in whatever way I can create it.

At this point in the pandemic it’s easy to get sucked in to the heaviness of it the restrictions--of it the things we don’t have and the things we can’t do. And there are many of those: I can’t be with most of my family, I can’t go to Costa Rica, I can’t teach in-person, I can’t even get my hair cut.

However there are lots of ways that I can reach out and that I can feast on lightness. I can take joy in the longer days, I can reach out more, I can share more, I can love more, I can play more, I can get outside more, I can read more, I can laugh more, I can enjoy the snow, I can enjoy my house. I the list is long. As I sit here with a smile on my face, I am reaffirming my intention to make 2021 a feast full of lightness and joy.

May this New Year bring you much joy and may you make the most of its promise and opportunity.
